Learn. Train. Lead!

The Stingrays Swim Team is a competitive New York City program for athletes ages 6–18, training more than 50 swimmers annually at the Children’s Aid Dunlevy Milbank Center Pool in Harlem and the John Jay College campus near Columbus Circle.

CA Stingrays builds technically strong swimmers while emphasizing discipline, accountability, and balance between academics and athletics—preparing athletes for success in the pool, the classroom, and beyond.

The Stingrays Swim Team is a competitive age-group swim team based at the Children’s Aid Dunlevy Milbank Center in Harlem.  We have a strong record for turning children who have never been in a pool into confident swimmers. Available to kids of all swimming levels (ages 6-18), instruction ranges from beginner to the highest level of competitive swimming.  The Stingrays are a recognized USA Swimming team and compete in the NY-NJ Metro Swim League as well as Metropolitan Swimming.

Who Is This For?

Serving athletes ages 6–18 of all skill levels, the program has a proven track record of developing beginners into confident, competitive swimmers.

Training progresses from foundational instruction to elite competition, with athletes regularly competing in local championships, Junior Olympics, and Eastern Zone meets. The Stingrays compete in the NY–NJ Metro Swim League and Metropolitan Swimming, providing a structured pathway from first swim to high-level competition.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the tryout location matter?

No! Connect with our team to schedule a tryout with a coach at either our Harlem or Midtown location.

What should I bring for tryouts?

Swimmers should arrive with a swimsuit on, swim cap, goggles, towel, and sandals or footwear not considered as street shoes

How long is the tryout session?

Each session lasts 10-15 minutes.

How many days a week do swimmers have practice?

Group BB | 3 In-Water Practices & 1 Dry Land Practice a week

– This includes HIIT or VASA Training sessions

Group AB | 4 In-Water Practices & 1 Dry Land Practice a week

– This includes HIIT and VASA Training sessions

Group AA | 5 In-Water Practices & 2 Dry Land Practices a week

– This includes HIIT and VASA Training sessions

Can I switch practice times if the schedule doesn't work for us?

Practice groups and schedules are set to support each swimmer’s development. Although your athlete may practice at either location, practice group times are not flexible.

Can my child swim more practices?

Each group’s schedule is age-appropriate and designed for steady progress. Extra training can lead to burnout or injury.

We usually travel for the summer, can we put practice on hold?

Our season runs September through mid-August. Summer training is important for skill development and preparing for the next season.

Participants who drop their Stingray Swim Team enrollment during the Summer or at any point during the season will only be eligible for a Team Prep Practice enrollment upon return until the following season’s championships have concluded.

What is the Meet Requirement?

All swimmers must qualify for The Metro Swim League Championships.

There are a total of 5 MSL short course competitions from September through March. Each swimmer must compete in a minimum of 4 of these meets including The MSL Championships.

All swimmers who qualify for USA Swimming Silvers, Junior Mets, and Bronze by achieving time qualifications must also compete in these championship meets.

All swimmers must compete in a minimum of 2 invitationals during short course season (September-March) and 1 invitational during long course season (May-August).

Why don’t we have meets every weekend?

Meets are carefully selected to balance training and racing. Competing too often limits long-term progress.

What if we miss a meet opt-out deadline and can’t attend?

Contact our coaching staff as soon as possible. Late changes may not be guaranteed and any entry fees associated with your swimmer will still be owed to the meet host.

Why do coaches choose my child’s events?

Coaches select events to help swimmers grow in all strokes and distances—not just their favorites. The goal should be to qualify in time standards for as many events as possible during younger age groups, then focus and target training in the athlete’s best events as they grow older.

What is a DQ?

A DQ (disqualification) happens when a rule is broken during a race. The swim won’t count, but it’s part of learning and improving.

How are relay teams selected?

Relay lineups are determined by the coaching staff, typically based on performance times and team strategy. Final decisions are at coach discretion.
